Data Structure: Gravity_data |
Description |
Gravitational constant data structure |
Usage |
Gravity_data NUM=ival where ival is the data structure number |
Description |
Overview The Gravity_data structure is used to define the gravitational constant. This is used by the geomechanical and porous fields to define gravitational loads. Notes •By default, if defined, gravitational loading will be active in all fields. It can however be restricted to individual fields by using the Porous_flow_load_flag and Geomechanical_load_flag keywords. •A Time_curve can be associated with gravitational loading to allow ramping up of gravity during initialisation. If no Time_curve is specified gravitational loading will be applied as an instantaneous load. •Only one Gravity_data data structure is to be specified.

Gravity_constant Gravitational constant |
Usage |
Description |
Value for the gravity constant. Generally 9.81 (m/s2).
Gravity_direction_flag Gravitational direction flag |
Usage |
Description |
The gravitational direction is always aligned with the global Y direction in 2-D and the global Z direction in 3-D. It may be specified as either in the positive or negative (default) direction. Valid values are: • 1 - gravity negative relative to global axis system (Default) • 2 - gravity positive relative to global axis system
Load_flag Gravitational loading flag for all fields |
Usage |
Description |
Activation flag for gravitational loading in all fields. Valid values are: • 0 - load inactive in all fields • 1 - load active in all fields
Porous_flow_load_flag Gravitational loading flag for porous flow field |
Usage |
Description |
Activation flag for gravitational loading in porous flow field. Valid values are: • 0 - load inactive in porous flow field • 1 - load active in porous flow field
Geomechanical_load_flag Gravitational loading flag for geomechanical field |
Usage |
Description |
Activation flag for gravitational loading in geomechanical field. Valid values are: • 0 - load inactive in geomechanical field • 1 - load active in geomechanical field
Time_curve (or Load_curve) Time curve name or number |
Usage |
Description |
Time curve name or number to be associated with the gravitational loading. This curve will be applied to all groups active at the start of the simulation. Groups activated via sedimentation will be assigned a time curve defined by the sediment loading initiation time.
Auto_scale_time_curve Automatically scale time curve to match stage (step) length |
Usage |
Description |
Automatically scale time curve to match stage/step length. Valid values are: • 0 - No automatic scaling • 1 - Automatic scaling
When set to 1 the time curve associated with gravity will be scaled to match the duration of the stage where the element group is first activated; i.e. the first stage for pre-existing materials and the stage corresponding to initial deposition for sedimented materials. |
