When using explicit dynamic solvers it is recommended to include damping in the solution so that high frequency oscillations can be damped and a steady state solution can be achieved. Usage of Damping_global_data is therefore generally recommended in all mechanical models run with ParaGeo.

 

Two models are available; mass proportional damping (Percentage_damping) and damping of the effective mean stress oscillations (Bulk_damping_model) which are described in detail in the Damping_global_data data structure description page.
