This example aims to familiarize the user with the different options for geostatic initialization. For this purpose a 3000m 3D shale column will be used. Initialization of the model is performed by defining an initial porosity trend with depth and initial pore pressure distribution. Gravity is ramped up during the geostatic stage in order to calculate and apply the vertical effective stress. Lateral stresses may be optionally ramped up with a defined ratio to the vertical effective stress. Specific issues considered are:
1.Datafile set up for geostatic initialization with a prescribed porosity trend (Geostatic_data, Spatial_variation_definition, Spatial_variation_values)
2.Data for prescribing different initial pore pressure distributions, with and without overpressure
3.Staged geostatic initialization for reinitialization of the displacements
